Dotson’s Gothic Fiction world exists on a long timeline, dubbed the Soul Matter universe, where superstitions are made tangible. “At some point, our beliefs about the soul and the nature of ghosts butt heads with mainstream religion. My fiction is a way to tease out those subtleties.” Dotson challenges notions of possession and exorcism in Along the Graveyard Lane (2020), to be followed by Behind the Sacred Veil and Souls of Shrinking Fields. In the subsequent Orgone Forensics trilogy, Dotson looks at what would happen if science discovered the soul.
